Best Rougelike Deck-Building game on iOS
The graphics are charming after looking at them for so long. This game is pretty deep with strategy taking precedence over flair.
There are a wide variety of characters (each with their own special abilities) and gameplay revolves around adding or deleting cards as you fight your way through 3 floors of monsters with a boss for each floor. Your character maxes out at level 10. Each monster has a deck and a strategy, and they will sometimes drop a chest, card, loot. The challenge comes in the form of deciding which strategy or cards to pick to optimize your chances of victory in future battles.
The game takes place in various locations: forest, in the sky, a crypt, volcanic area, under the sea, a dungeon. On each floor there are also little houses to buy items with in game loot (cards, mana, health, experience, or equipment, etc.) There are also special events and places to go: a spring to fully heal you, a monastery to delete unwanted cards, an anvil used to upgrade cards and altars to pray to for added buffs and some negative consequences.
Completing a floor gives you the option to do a variety of extra effects from adding an equipment slot, increasing health, mana, etc.
With each play through, youre trying to work your way through a couple of pages of achievements that range from beating the game with specific characters or bosses, etc. You can also use points earned from game runs to purchase achievements, perfect if you want early access to character classes that may be a little hard to achieve normally.
The game is highly recommend. The developer is so good, he got invited to work for Hearth Stone. Im still hoping Peter Whalen, games creator, releases his game Hoshiken( I cant find the page of what he was actually going to call it, started with an H). Overall, do play this game.
